LOVE. RELATE. EMPOWER. MOVE.

OUR MISSION

Through Christ’s love, New Hope empowers families to break through cycles of poverty and create a flourishing community.

OUR VISION

New Hope envisions a transformed community where individuals and families are safe, strong, self-sufficient, and experiencing God’s grace; where neighbors are reconciled racially, socially, and economically; and where people put aside their differences to work together to meet needs, affirm strengths, and develop leaders.

OUR VALUES

We are broken people made in God’s image. Together we strive to embody Christ’s RELENTLESS LOVE, uphold people’s INHERENT DIGNITY, and inspire INFECTIOUS HOPE.

RELENTLESS LOVE

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” Romans 5:8. Ultimately, the Gospel story is a tale of relentless love. Jesus has gone – and will continue to go – to any and every length to restore His people and His creation to Himself. We at New Hope strive to embody Christ’s relentless love, “because He first loved us,” 1 John 4:19.

In practice, this means we receive people with open arms, meeting them where they are at. We welcome everyone. We build a consistent, relational presence, staying by people’s side even when one step forward is followed by two steps back. We are willing to suffer so that God’s love may be revealed. We believe, “that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord,” Romans 8:38-39. Loving well is the litmus test for everything we do, say, and aspire to be.

INHERENT DIGNITY

We believe all people have inherent dignity. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” All people bear God’s image. We are defined not by what we lack, not by our mistakes or our circumstances, but by the image of God in us. “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago,” (Ephesians 2:10).

At New Hope, we help release the in-born image of God in the lives of participants. We design our programs and approach our interactions in ways that will enhance dignity. We are confident that all people – no matter how broken – have gifts. All people have enormous potential in Christ. We are not here to fix problems, but to help people recover their identity in Christ. People who the world would define as needy and helpless, we see as leaders in the making. In all of our conduct we seek to uphold people’s inherent dignity.

INFECTIOUS HOPE

We have a profound hope in God. Revelation 21:4 says that one day, God, “will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” With our eyes on the ultimate victory of Christ over death and sin, we have the ability to discover hope in even the darkest situation. “The needy shall not always be forgotten, and the hope of the poor shall not perish forever,” (Psalm 9:18). Even in the darkest of times, Job said, “Though he slay me, I will hope in him,” (Job 13:15). Jeremiah states: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope,” (Jeremiah 29:11).

These promises inspire in us an irrepressible hope. When conducting ourselves in relation to each other and our participants, we cannot help but cling to the hope of Christ. We desire that all those with whom we interact can understand and live in this hope. We encourage each other and our participants when times seem dark. We herald the light at the end of the tunnel in each circumstance. We instill in our community an infectious hope to inspire everyone toward Christ.
