RESTORING Emotional And Spiritual Health.

Often, the challenges our program participants face are rooted in broken homes, emotional stress, and difficulties related to marriage or parenting. In our community about 12% of households are led by a single parent. In order to overcome challenges, people need both personal and community support. New Hope offers counseling to individuals and families, as well as a Women of Hope support group. Together, these programs create a web of relational support upon which transformation can take place.

Counseling

The Counseling Program helps our program participants restore relationships with family members, neighbors, and themselves. Despite the fact that mental health needs have increased dramatically in recent years, New Hope has the only free, bilingual, Christian counseling program in our community. Sessions take place with individuals, couples, and even whole families. New Hope’s LCSW meets with participants of all ages, helping them process trauma, gain emotional intelligence, and develop healthy relationships.

Women of Hope

Our participants need emotional support during times of trial. Many of the families include first generation immigrants whose journey to this country has created a loss of community and increased social and emotional strain. Women of Hope is a support group made up of women of all ages from the Haledon and Prospect Park communities. On the second Thursday of each month, they get together to support one another, have some fun and share a meal! The women break into smaller groups to participate in activities including crafting, life skills, crocheting, cooking, parenting classes and more.

Women of Hope is much more than a women’s group, however. It is a place where we develop leaders who give back to our community. Currently, a Steering Committee of women from the group who plan and organize events, help everyone stay in touch in between meetings, and carry out various leadership roles. By building up leaders within the group, we empower women to use their gifts for the good of the community, generating sustainable leadership for the future.
